RAF Hack Green nuclear bunker, near Nantwich in Cheshire.
Images taken in August 1994, when I was a freelance press photographer covering Manchester, Leeds and the North West.
RAF Hack Green nuclear bunker
Air filters and food preparation area.

Control room.
One of 17 Regional Government Headquarters around the UK, in the event of a nuclear war the bunker would have protected the area between Liverpool and Birmingham.
Fully functional, the base was the 7th most powerful nuclear power in the world.
I took the pictures shortly after the MOD abandoned the building, when it was put up for sale.
Today it is open to the public as a museum.

Shot over the past 6 months, I’ve now completed my latest body of personal work, Electricity substations.
Continuing from my last book on Midlands Industrial estates I’m interested in the everyday objects that all effect our lives, but are often missed or ignored. Without these objects our lives would be very different.

Recently spent 1 day in London and 2 mornings shooting inside HMP Swinfen, Lichfield for Good Vibrations, a charity that helps prisoners and patients in secure units develop life and work skills by participating in Gamelan (Indonesian bronze percussion.) Brief was to capture the vibrancy and energy of the participants.
Nice comment from the client “Hi Jo The photos are fantastic! Thanks so much. And please can you pass on my huge thanks to Ed?”

I was commissioned before Christmas to take portraits of Marilyn Perks with her partner Brian by Yours magazine.
Story was about how they met through caring for their partners, who both had developed Alzhemeirs.
Just one example of the editorial photography I have supplied recently for trade and consumer magazines.

Cadbury chocolate taste tester, taken in 2008 at the Bournville factory in Birmingham.
Most peoples dream job, the testers taste the chocolate under red lighting, this way they are not influenced by the colour of the chocolate.
