Images taken in August 1994, when I was a freelance press photographer covering Manchester, Leeds and the North West. RAF Hack Green nuclear bunker Air filters and food preparation area. Control room. One of 17 Regional Government Headquarters around the UK, in the event of a nuclear war the bunker would have protected the area between Liverpool and Birmingham. Fully functional, the base was the 7th most powerful nuclear power in the world. I took the pictures shortly after the MOD abandoned the building, when it was put up for sale.
